Ringworm is the most common contagious skin fungal infection in cats. It appears as a small, round sore on the skin that may look scaly in the center. This most often appears around the head, neck or tail of cats and causes itching and discomfort for our kitties. This can be contagious from cat to human  (and visa versa), but is also fairly easy to treat. In this guide we’ll help you treat ringworm in cats naturally, at home. 

Symptoms of Ringworm in Cats

If your kitty has ringworm, the common symptoms you will see are:

• Circular hair loss on skin of infected area
• Excessive licking
• Itchy skin
• Inflamed skin
• Crusty skin

Common causes of Ringworm in Cats

Cats contract ringworm when they come in contact with the fungus. This could be from another infected animal, human, or from a surface that was exposed to the fungus.

Natural Treatments for Ringworm in Cats

For nearly 20 years, we’ve personally used the Oxy-Cat formula to stop ringworm in our home (both with pets and humans). Here are some other at-home remedies that can be effective treating ringworm in cats:

• Raw aloe vera applied twice per day
• Organic coconut oil applied 4-5 times per day
• Colloidal silver sprayed or wiped on the area several times per day
• Calendula made into a tincture or cream and applied as needed

When applying topical remedies to the affected area, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before touching your own skin, as this fungus can be contagious. Be sure not to let your cat continue to lick the wounded area, as this will slow down healing. You may need to use a soft cone or collar to prevent this.
