Cats, just like humans, can get wounds and rashes on the skin. It’s important that skin issues be evaluated by your vet – and if the wound is severe, it’s important to get your cat into a veterinarian’s or emergency clinic quickly. If the rash or wound is mild, you can likely start tending to it yourself. In this guide we will help you find ways to naturally help your cat’s skin ailments at home.

Symptoms of Rashes, Cuts and Abrasions in Cats

If your kitty has a wound, you’ll typically be able to spot it quickly. However, cats often mask their pain – making it harder for us cat parents to detect. Regular at-home checkups with a gentle massage will help you better discover any uncomfortable spots.

Other symptoms may include:

• Excessive grooming of the wounded area
• Itchy skin
• Hair loss
• Inflamed skin
• Blood on the skin
• Red skin
• Crusty or stinky skin

• Injury
• Dermatitis
• Allergies
• Ringworm
• Yeast
• Parasites

Natural Treatments for Rashes, Cuts and Abrasions in Cats

We use one, miracle solution for all of our cat’s topical needs called Meow Mist Plus. That said, here are some other at-home remedies that can help your cat’s skin issue:

1. If a wound is from an injury or fight you will need to clean and disinfect it first. Use water along with povidone iodine to clean gently.
2. Apply chamomile (a cool tea bag placed on the wound will suffice) to the area
3. Coconut oil is both soothing and healing to the skin – organic and unrefined.
4. Raw aloe vera applied to rashes or abrasions is soothing and healing
5. Manuka honey is a wonderful, healing solution that you should be able to find anywhere

Be sure not to let your cat continue to lick the affected area, as this will slow down healing. You may need to use a soft cone or collar to prevent this.
