You may be a person that wonders how color therapy works at all. Speaking from experience, perhaps no species is better qualified to answer that question for you than your cat.
Cats are incredibly sensitive, intuitive beings. Long before we notice something is “off,” our cats are already responding to subtle energetic shifts in their environment – including color.
In our recent interview with Lora Lee Medley of Moon Mojo Feline, we dig into the nitty gritty of one of simplest (and most accessible) holistic tools available to cat parents: color therapy.
The beautiful part? You likely already have everything you need at home.
What Is Color Therapy for Cats?
Color therapy is based on the idea that colors carry vibrational frequencies that influence physical, emotional, mental, and energetic well-being.
According to Lora Lee, all living beings – humans and animals alike – absorb color through the eyes and the skin. Each color vibrates at a specific frequency, and the body responds accordingly.
Cats are highly receptive because they don’t filter experiences through skepticism or logic. They simply respond. As Lora Lee puts it: “Cats don’t question whether something is woo-woo. They just feel it.”
Why Color Therapy Works So Well for Cats
Even though cats don’t see color the same way humans do, they respond strongly to vibrational frequency, not visual interpretation.
This is why:
- Blind or visually impaired cats can still benefit
- Cats are often drawn to specific colors during illness or stress
- Self-selection plays such a powerful role
Just like with herbs, cats instinctively choose what they need.
Color Therapy & Chakras: How It All Connects
Color therapy aligns closely with the chakra system – the body’s energetic centers. When a chakra is unbalanced, it may show up as a behavior issue, emotional shift, or physical symptom.
Lora Lee has observed that, in most cases, the energetic imbalance comes first, followed by the physical manifestation.
Here’s how each chakra relates to color and common feline issues:
Color Guide: What Each Color Supports
🔴 Red: Root Chakra

Lora Lee notes that senior cats often have very active crown chakras as they prepare for their next life phase.
How to Use Color Therapy at Home (The Easy Way)
You don’t need special tools or products.
Try this:
→ Gather items you already own (shirts, towels, blankets)
→ Choose a variety of colors
→ Lay them out near – but not replacing – your cat’s favorite spots
→ Observe where your cat chooses to rest, play, or linger
That choice is the therapy.
Important:
Avoid using strong colors in places where cats eat or sleep regularly. Neutral tones (white, cream, soft gray) are best for daily routines.
Feeding, Appetite & Color Therapy
Lora Lee also adds that:
- Red can help stimulate appetite
- Yellow supports digestion
- Neutral dishes are best for everyday meals to avoid energetic interference
If appetite is an issue, offering color nearby – not directly under food – can still be supportive.
Anxiety, Fear & Stress: Best Color Combos
For anxious cats, Lora Lee recommends offering the full rainbow and letting them choose.
Common supportive colors:
- Red (grounding)
- Blue (calm)
- Green or pink (emotional safety)
- Orange (confidence)
Self-selection is key.
A Note on Self-Selection (Why This Matters Most)
Just like with herb gardens, color therapy works best when cats are given options.
Different cats – even those in the same household – will gravitate toward different colors at different times. This kind of autonomy alone is healing.
Bonus Tips from the Episode
→ Adding your scent to colored fabrics can increase your cats’ comfort level
→ Light shades calm overactive energy; brighter shades support underactive energy
→ Color therapy pairs beautifully with herbs, crystals, and gentle energy work
Color therapy is one of the most accessible, intuitive ways to support your cat’s emotional and physical well-being – and it costs nothing.
The best way to know if and how color therapy works is to try it. Watch how your cat responds. We have found our cats already knows what they need. Color therapy simply gives them a way to show us.
