If you’re considering adopting a pet for yourself or your family, you are likely wondering what kind of pet would best fit into your life. As a crazy cat lover, I want to share with you why cats make the best pets ever.
First, let me point out that I’m not a big fan of calling my cats “pets”. They are my family members. I also don’t like calling myself a “cat owner”. My cats own me. I’m just their guardian. There are many reasons to support my obviously bias opinion that cats make the best ‘pets’, but here are my top three.
- Cats Are Low Maintenance – Cats don’t need much. They are independent animals that survive just fine being left alone while we’re off to work for the day. Just like humans, they function best with a routine and a healthy diet/exercise program – but they aren’t going to keel over simply because we don’t feel like waking up early or if we have to spend longer hours at the office. And, unlike our canine companions, they don’t need weekly bath sessions or twice daily walks around the block in the rain.
- Cats Are Litter Box Trained – From the get-go! Us cat parents don’t need to stress over having enough “poop bags” for the month. We never had to go through the ‘potty training’ months where we had to teach them where to do their business. Buy a litter box and some litter. Put it in a quiet and convenient place in the house – and show it to your cat. They get the picture immediately. Get yourself a litter scoop and voila – you’re done!
- Cats Give The Best Cuddles – Even though they may be independent, cats love Love. And they wait until you’re available for love to express theirs. Convenient? I think so. My favorite moment of each day is when the day is done… My cats know when I’m ready for bed and they wait at the stairs for me to finish the last tasks of the day. Then they wait patiently while I wash up and put on my pjs… Then it’s snuggle time. There is nothing better than cuddles from your precious kitty.
