You read that correctly. The USDA is killing kittens. And, as tax-paying citizens, our dollars are being used to fund this.
A recent investigation revealed that the USDA is killing numerous kittens each year for experimental purposes. This “research project” has been going on since the 1980s and is conducted at a laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland.
The “research project” has been going on since the 1980s
What they’re doing is breeding kittens, feeding them the toxoplasma gondii parasite with infected meat, collecting their feces and then harvesting the parasite. After this is complete? They euthanize the kittens between 2-3 months of age.
So essentially they’re being used as petri dishes and the USDA is killing kittens after they’ve served their purpose.
And you’re funding this horrible act with your tax dollars. So am I.
What’s even worse? The kittens are being euthanized even if they don’t show symptoms at all!
Wouldn’t you think that, after 30+ years, this research should stop? I mean, I’m sure there was a better way to test this parasite in the first place, but how many animals must be killed for these researchers to get answers?
As a cat parent, feline lover and opponent of animal testing, I find this research appalling and unnecessary. Other than testing to see how the parasite travels, I have heard of no valid reasoning as to why this research is even happening.
This is animal cruelty. And it must stop. Watch this video below and visit USDAstinks.com to urge your congressperson to stop allowing this practice to continue. It literally takes 30 seconds. Please help stop this atrocious project and put an end to euthanizing countless innocent kittens.
